Dan Hudson from Solihull achieved an incredible feat by breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon while dressed as a microphone at the London Marathon on Sunday, April 26. Finishing in an impressive time of 3 hours, 35 minutes, and 51 seconds, Dan shaved a remarkable 39 minutes off the previous record.
Drawing on his podcasting background, the choice of a microphone costume was a perfect fit. Despite expecting a tough challenge, Dan found the marathon went easier than he anticipated. “I knew once I hit the first couple of miles at about seven minutes each, I’d have to really mess up not to claim the record,” he shared.
Along the route, Dan enjoyed some memorable moments, including an impromptu TV interview near mile 23 with a BBC Sport microphone. The crowd’s enthusiasm was constant, with supporters often shouting “microphone!” to cheer him on. To stay focused, Dan relied on music throughout most of the race, but each pause to take out his headphones was met with encouragement from onlookers.

However, the costume brought some unforeseen difficulties. “Towards the end, it became a bit of a nightmare. The visibility was poor, so I couldn’t fully appreciate the iconic sights at the finish, like Parliament and Buckingham Palace,” Dan explained. His priority remained pushing through to the finish line, making those visuals less important in the moment.
Dan’s record-breaking run wasn’t just a personal victory; it also supported a meaningful cause. He raised over £1,300 for Marie Curie, an organization that provided end-of-life care for his mother.
