Walking through the near-empty corridors from Birmingham International to the NEC was eerily quiet, reminiscent of a vast airport terminal with no other passengers in sight. It felt almost like stepping into a video game world where I was the sole player—an unexpected stillness for a Friday evening.
After about ten minutes, distant sounds of music and voices stirred the silence. Approaching Hall 12, I discovered a lively scene buzzing with excitement. Families and friends eagerly gathered, anticipating the challenging assault courses they were about to face. Having only a vague memory of Gladiators from my youth, I was taken aback by the scale of the event, especially the giant Eliminator course positioned right near the entrance. Its towering climbing wall and nearby zipline looked both daunting and thrilling.
Gladiators from the TV show mingled with attendees, posing for photos, alongside contenders from the current season clad in their official kits. Everyone seemed in great shape, setting the competitive tone of the event.

After gearing up with a helmet and pads, I decided to tackle the Eliminator first. Despite my unease with heights, I climbed the ropes and tackled hidden tricky spots that weren’t obvious from the sidelines. Zooming down the zipline was an exhilarating rush, knowing I’d conquered the event’s toughest part first. This, I realized, was the essence of the Gladiators Experience—pushing your limits just like the TV contenders.
The highlight of the day was Duel, where Naomi, a contender from this year’s series, was my opponent. Before we began, she patiently showed me how to grip the pommel horse, but once we started, she demonstrated no mercy, landing several heavy blows. Duel was by far the most interactive and fun event, perfect for friends and family to compete and bond.
Contrary to my fears, The Wall, a large rock-climbing structure with safety harnesses, was surprisingly manageable. However, Hang Tough proved the most challenging. This final obstacle requires swinging from one platform to another on metal rings. I attempted it twice but fell, slightly injuring my hand. While I didn’t need medical attention, I left with a new goal—to conquer Hang Tough on my next visit.
What stood out was how welcoming the Gladiators Experience was to participants of all shapes and abilities. Each course was designed for everyone to enjoy and challenge themselves safely.
Starting with the hardest course, the Eliminator, was smart—had I saved it for later, it might have been even more exhausting.
All told, I highly recommend the Gladiators Experience for anyone craving a unique, physical challenge. Tickets cost £44.50 for adults as contenders, with family and junior rates available and a smaller Eliminator course for younger participants. Whether bringing family or friends, you’re sure to spend several thrilling hours immersed in this dynamic event.
The Gladiators Experience runs at Birmingham’s NEC until August 31. Tickets are available for those who want to spectate or take part, with VIP options offering early access, official kits, medals, and video highlights.
