Husband’s Stabbing Attack Leaves Wife in Coma with Severe Brain Injury

Amir Khan, 25, brutally stabbed his wife, Madia Bano, also 25, with such force that the weapon penetrated her brain, leaving her in a coma. The incident occurred at their home on Villa Road, Lozells, Birmingham, on November 1 last year.

Initially, Khan claimed that Ms. Bano, a mother of four, had simply fallen at home. However, a hospital CT scan revealed a serious stab wound to her head. Prosecutor Sally Howes KC explained that parts of Ms. Bano’s brain had been destroyed, resulting in Locked-in plus syndrome — a rare and severe neurological condition.

“The injury to Ms. Bano’s head has caused irreversible and permanent brain damage that is medically life-threatening and life-changing, with a significant risk of early death,” Ms. Howes stated. Ms. Bano remains in a coma and shows no signs of recovery.

Despite investigations, the weapon used in the attack was never found. Amir Khan, who is in the UK as an illegal overstayer, was convicted of the attack on May 5 at Birmingham Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced on May 13. The court proceedings revealed that his motive remains unclear.
