Hundreds of Counterfeit Labubu and Disney Toys Seized in Walsall Amid Safety Concerns

In a coordinated operation in September 2025, police and Walsall Council Trading Standards officers seized over 500 counterfeit toys from three shops in Walsall. The fake merchandise, including well-known brands such as Labubu, Disney, Hello Kitty, Bluey, Super Mario, and Louis Vuitton, failed critical safety tests, revealing serious risks to children’s health.

Laboratory analysis showed that some counterfeit Labubu toys presented a choking hazard for children under 36 months due to detachable small parts. More alarmingly, chemical tests detected excessive levels of phthalates—harmful chemicals linked to endocrine disruption and potentially adverse effects on child development and reproductive health.

Councillor Ian Benton, portfolio holder for street scene and enforcement, emphasized the gravity of the findings: “Counterfeit goods aren’t just illegal; they pose significant safety threats, especially to young children. Our Trading Standards team will keep working with partners to root out unsafe products and safeguard consumers.”

The shops involved remain unnamed pending ongoing investigations. Authorities have confirmed all seized branded items were counterfeit. These illegal toys will be destroyed to prevent any risk to public health.

This operation highlights the risks fake toys bring into communities and the continued vigilance required to prevent hazardous products from reaching shelves.
