The discovery of human remains in the Midlands has been confirmed as those of Malgorzata Wnuczek, a woman who went missing nearly two decades ago. Malgorzata, a Polish national residing in Leicester, was 27 years old when she was last seen on May 31, 2006. She was last spotted catching a bus from her workplace at Peter Jackson Logistics heading into Leicester city centre.
Her family, who affectionately called her Gosia, last heard from her via text message two days before her disappearance. In June 2023, prompted by information from the Polish police, search operations were carried out along the River Soar between Mill Lane and Upperton Road bridges.
In October 2023, Malgorzata’s remains were recovered from scrubland near Great Central Way, close to Watkin Road. The remains have since undergone forensic testing. As investigations continue, Leicestershire Police reported that a 39-year-old man from Greater Manchester was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice but was released without further action.

Detective Superintendent Jenni Greenway expressed her deepest condolences to Malgorzata’s family, acknowledging that while the discovery ends years of uncertainty, it does not erase their grief. She confirmed the investigation into Malgorzata’s death remains active and ongoing.
“We continue to work closely with our counterparts in Poland, whose support has been invaluable, as we strive to uncover what happened,” said Det Supt Greenway. She also urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that it is never too late to assist the investigation.
