Human Remains Confirmed as Polish Woman Missing for Nearly 20 Years

Human remains uncovered in scrubland near Leicester have been officially identified as Malgorzata Wnuczek, a Polish woman who vanished almost two decades ago.

Malgorzata, 27 at the time of her disappearance on May 31, 2006, was last seen boarding a bus from her workplace at Peter Jackson Logistics on Sunningdale Road, heading toward Leicester city centre. Her final contact with family was a text message sent two days prior to her disappearance.

In October, Leicestershire Police reported that remains found off the Great Central Way near Watkin Road were taken for detailed forensic analysis, which confirmed the identification.

Following information received from Polish authorities in June 2023, searches were conducted along the River Soar between Mill Lane and Upperton Road bridges. During the investigation, a 39-year-old man in Greater Manchester was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice but was later released without charges.

Police stated that a file is currently being prepared for the coroner. Detective Superintendent Jenni Greenway expressed her condolences to Malgorzata’s family and emphasized that although the identification ends years of uncertainty, the investigation into her death remains active. She acknowledged the continued partnership with Polish authorities and urged anyone with information to come forward, noting, “It’s never too late to help.”
