HSBC Provides Update on Birmingham New Street Branch Reopening After 2025 Fire

HSBC has announced significant progress in repairing its Birmingham New Street branch, which was forced to close in October 2025 following a devastating fire at the adjacent Premier Inn hotel. The blaze prompted the evacuation of around 200 people and required a response from 60 firefighters.

Although the Premier Inn reopened shortly after the incident, the HSBC branch has remained closed, with customers being redirected to alternative locations via signage. Now, HSBC has revealed plans to reopen the branch in early 2027 after extensive refurbishment to address the significant interior damage caused by the fire.

In an official statement to BirminghamLive, HSBC representatives said: “Our New Street branch sustained significant interior damage as a result of the fire. While this has extended our refurbishment timeline, we are making good progress and currently expect the branch to reopen in early 2027.”

Until then, HSBC customers in Birmingham can continue to access services at the temporary HSBC Local branch in Grand Central, as well as full-service branches in the Jewellery Quarter on Warstone Lane and at 1 Centenary Square. The Grand Central location offers specialist support for online transactions, direct debits, standing orders, bereavement banking, Power of Attorney registration, financial difficulties, disputes, and fraud, despite not providing cash withdrawal counters.

Notably, across the street from the HSBC branch, Lloyds Bank has also been closed but plans to reopen with a fresh new look on July 6 at 9:30 am.

HSBC remains committed to supporting its Birmingham customers throughout the refurbishment process and looks forward to welcoming them back to a fully restored New Street branch in the near future.
