How to Keep Begonias Blooming All Summer with This Simple Care Routine

Begonias are a favourite among gardeners for their affordability, ease of growth, and vibrant blooms that can brighten up any garden throughout the summer. To get the best from your begonias, expert grower Lynne Dibley, a gold medal winner at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and proprietor of Dibleys Nurseries in Ruthin, North Wales, offers her key advice for keeping these flowers in peak bloom.

Speaking from her colourful stand at the Great Pavilion, Lynne emphasizes the importance of regular feeding with the right fertiliser. She recommends using a high-potassium feed, which encourages plants to focus energy on flower production rather than foliage growth.

“Once your begonias are established in their pots or planting area, apply a high-potassium fertiliser roughly every two weeks,” Lynne advises. “A tomato feed works well and is an easy option.”

Potassium plays a crucial role in promoting continuous flowering, making it ideal for begonias that can bloom for several months with the right care. The good news for gardeners is that flowering begonias aren’t overly demanding and adapt well to various garden settings, offering a long-lasting splash of colour with minimal fuss.
