How a Midland Mother Planned a £1,500 Wedding in Under Two Months

Amy Grayland, a mother of two from Bewdley and known as Money Saving Amy, is set to marry her partner Luke in a small, budget-friendly ceremony that cost just £1,500. With their wedding scheduled for July, Amy shared with BirminghamLive how she crafted a beautiful celebration without breaking the bank.

Despite the average UK wedding costing around £20,600, Amy and Luke decided to keep things simple. Their special day will take place at a registration office with close family, followed by an intimate party with friends.

Amy broke down the costs: the ceremony itself was £270, notice of marriage fees came in at just under £100, and a live singer for the party added approximately £250. Food was kept affordable by opting for an afternoon gathering with nibbles rather than a sit-down meal.

“I could have kept it even cheaper, a couple hundred pounds if we wanted, but we wanted a party to celebrate with our loved ones,” Amy explained. She emphasized the importance of making the day unique while staying within budget. The venue was booked at a great deal, and supportive family members have embraced their approach.

Amy’s engagement story is just as practical — after watching financial advice from Martin Lewis, she and Luke, who have been together for 12 years, had a straightforward conversation about the benefits of marriage. Amy’s engagement ring cost a mere £32, reflecting their focus on financial sensibility.

With a clear mindset on celebrating their relationship without overspending, Amy and Luke’s wedding is a testament to how meaningful events don’t have to come with a hefty price tag.
