Dera Restaurant, a curry house located on Caldmore Road in Walsall, has been fined £45,000 after employing an illegal worker. Immigration enforcement officers conducted a visit last year, leading to the arrest and detention of a Pakistani national for illegal employment.
The Home Office condemned the act, stating that illegal working undermines honest employers and damages the local labour market. As a result, the substantial fine was imposed on the restaurant.
In response to the incident, Walsall Council has launched a review of Dera Restaurant’s premises licence, focusing on crime prevention and public safety grounds. It remains unclear whether the Home Office has requested the licence revocation.

Notably, on the same day—August 9, 2025—enforcement officers also discovered two female Indian workers illegally employed at Pizza Pan, a pizza outlet on Walsall Road, Willenhall. This establishment was similarly fined £45,000, had two individuals arrested, and now faces a licence review, with the possibility of revocation supported by both the Home Office and West Midlands Police.
A Home Office spokesperson emphasized the government’s commitment to combating illegal employment, highlighting historic levels of immigration enforcement and significant increases in both illegal working arrests and raids.
