Historic UK Fish and Chip Frying Range Manufacturer Rescued from Administration

Henry Nuttall, one of the UK’s oldest and most prestigious manufacturers of frying ranges for fish and chip shops, has been rescued from administration. Founded in the 1860s in Rochdale, this iconic company boasts a legacy stretching back to Victorian times and has been a staple supplier in the industry for over 150 years.

Following financial difficulties triggered by the death of the company owner in March 2024, coupled with rising cost pressures and waning product demand, Henry Nuttall faced insolvency. Despite an extensive search for a solvent buyer, no immediate solution emerged. With creditor pressure mounting, the future of this proud British brand looked uncertain.

However, the company was saved through a going-concern sale by joint administrators Azets, transferring ownership to HN Ranges under the RGM Leeds group. This acquisition also ensured all 11 jobs were preserved, providing stability to the workforce and continuity to customers.

Richard Oddy and Jonathan Amor of Azets emphasized Henry Nuttall’s unique position as one of only two main UK manufacturers of frying ranges—the other being Hopkins—and noted that it was the world’s original frying range manufacturer. The acquisition by Hopkins, facilitated through RGM Leeds, promises renewed investment and long-term support.

A spokesperson from RGM Leeds assured customers that the Henry Nuttall brand would continue operating independently with the same dedication to service, quality products, and family values. Day-to-day business remains unchanged, backed by the resources and expertise of the RGM Leeds group.

This rescue marks a significant milestone in preserving a historic British manufacturing brand, ensuring fish and chip shops across the UK can continue relying on the trusted Henry Nuttall frying ranges for years to come.
