Heartbroken Couple Seeks Help After Devastating Flood Destroys Birmingham Home

A Birmingham couple’s life was turned upside down after a burst water pipe flooded their city centre home, prompting them to launch a fundraiser for much-needed support.

Eirini Lepintzi, 33, was at work when she had to call her partner, Kiril Dimitrov, 35, with the devastating news that their Irving Street flat had been engulfed by floodwaters. The fire service responded quickly, but the water continued to pour in for hours, leaving behind extensive damage.

The couple described the heartbreaking scene: carpets soaked beyond repair, laminate flooring swollen and buckled, and moisture seeping into walls, doors, and furniture. Persistent mould, dampness, and unpleasant odours have made their flat difficult to live in.

Damage spread across multiple rooms, including bedrooms, the bathroom, hallway, and storage areas, with an estimated 200 litres of water extracted from the property. The emotional toll on the couple has been immense.

“We’ve lost so many of our belongings, and the stress is overwhelming,” Eirini shared. “We’re doing everything we can to dry out the flat, using heaters and dehumidifiers constantly, but it’s been emotionally exhausting.”

With no contents insurance to cover the losses, the couple has turned to the community for assistance via a GoFundMe page to help cover repair costs and personal items.

Eirini added, “We don’t want anyone to feel pressured to donate—we understand there are many facing hardships—but sharing our story and support means the world to us as we try to rebuild our lives.”

For now, Eirini and Kiril are temporarily sleeping on the sofa, haunted by the fear of another leak. Their plea highlights the unexpected challenges floods can bring and the resilience required to overcome them.
