Heartbreak as Tesco Security Guard Suffers Cardiac Arrest After Choking on Doughnut

The family of Mohamed Nassar, a 58-year-old Tesco security guard, is devastated after he suffered a cardiac arrest while on duty at the Tesco Express store in Salford, near Manchester city centre. The incident occurred on Friday, May 8, when Mohamed began choking on a doughnut during his break.

Paramedics arrived promptly and managed to resuscitate Mohamed, but his heart had stopped for a total of 23 minutes. His family has been informed that he has sustained severe brain damage as a result. Mohamed is currently on life support at Manchester Royal Infirmary, where he is undergoing tests to determine the extent of his condition. Doctors have warned the family that his chances of survival are slim.

Originally from London, Mohamed moved to Manchester in 2020 with his family. He is a father of three and a former musician, having worked for a third-party security firm for about five years. Mohamed’s son, 23-year-old Seif Abdelwaneis, described the shock and heartbreak his family felt upon hearing the news. “It was very emotional, especially for my mum,” Seif said. “She was crying a lot. We rushed straight to the hospital.”

Seif recalled his father as an exceptionally kind and caring man who was well-regarded by customers and colleagues alike. “Dad always helped people, carried bags, and built good relationships with everyone. More than anything, he was a loving dad who cared deeply about his family,” he said. Mohamed had recently become a grandfather, bringing joy to the whole family.

As the sole provider for the family, Mohamed’s sudden illness has left them facing a difficult future. To support them during this heartbreaking time, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help with financial needs.

Osarugue Onaghise, manager of the Manchester Bailey Tesco Express store, expressed the team’s deep sadness: “On behalf of all our colleagues, our thoughts are with Mohamed and his family during this very difficult time.”

Mohamed’s family remains by his side, hoping for a miracle as he fights for his life.
