Hartlebury Castle Near Birmingham Opens Free Doors for Two Days Only

Hartlebury Castle, a striking moated fortress located just 45 minutes from Birmingham, is inviting visitors to explore its rich history and scenic surroundings with free admission for two days only.

Once home to the pope who refused Henry VIII’s request for a divorce, the castle boasts a past filled with intrigue. Among its notable figures are three bishops who achieved sainthood, two of whom were burned at the stake, marking Hartlebury Castle as a site deeply intertwined with England’s national history.

Today, the castle serves as a museum featuring an impressive palace interior, alongside Worcestershire County Museum, which delves into the area’s local history. The grounds include a vast adventure playground and are abundant with wildlife, offering both educational and recreational opportunities.

Typically, admission fees are £15.25 for adults and £8.75 for children. However, as part of Heritage Open Days, visitors can enjoy complimentary entry on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September.

Free sessions are available as follows: 10am to 1.30pm and 1.30pm to 5pm on Friday, and 11am to 2pm and 2pm to 5pm on Saturday, with last admission at 4pm on both days. Attendance requires pre-booking through the Hartlebury Castle website.

Enhance the visit with refreshments at Hayley’s Kitchen and the pop-up Castle Café, or dine at the nearby White Hart pub.

Located at Hartlebury Castle, Hartlebury, Worcestershire, DY11 7XZ, the site is accessible by car via the M5 motorway or by train from Birmingham Snow Hill Station, which takes approximately 40 minutes. The castle is situated one mile from Hartlebury train station.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the castle’s captivating heritage, enjoy its peaceful moated views, and partake in the family-friendly activities offered throughout the grounds.
