Handsworth Triangle and Soho Road Crime Crackdown: Five Key Actions of Operation Fearless

West Midlands Police have initiated a major crackdown on crime in the vibrant Handsworth Triangle and along the bustling Soho Road shopping district. A dedicated team of 20 officers will focus on tackling theft, drug-related issues, knife crime, anti-social behaviour, and other challenges impacting the area.

This effort is part of “Operation Fearless,” a collaborative initiative involving West Midlands Police alongside Trading Standards, housing authorities, Soho Road Business Improvement District (BID), West Midlands Fire Service, Immigration, HMRC, and the Gambling Commission.

The Fearless team has already demonstrated success in previous deployments. Their work on Erdington High Street led to a significant reduction in anti-social behaviour, shoplifting, drug dealing, and knife crime. More recently, the team targeted serious and organised crime in the Southside area of the city centre, focusing on exploitation and money laundering.

For the Soho Road operation, the team is based at Thornhill Road police station and has already made over 20 arrests. The public can expect visible policing and concentrated efforts designed to improve safety and community well-being.

Deputy Chief Constable Jen Mattinson stated, “We’re excited to bring Fearless to Soho Road and Handsworth Triangle. Residents, workers, and visitors will see real improvements as the team addresses the concerns raised by the community and partners. Our approach builds on strong intelligence and targets those causing the most harm.”

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, who invested nearly £1 million in launching Operation Fearless, added: “This critical funding supports accessible, proactive, and visible policing. The Fearless team has a proven record in preventing and tackling crime, ensuring safety for families, businesses, and local communities. We’re committed to improving quality of life in Soho Road and Handsworth Triangle.”

Operation Fearless represents a united commitment to making West Midlands’ communities safer, demonstrating the power of partnership and proactive policing in addressing crime hotspots and restoring public confidence.
