Peter Workman, approaching retirement at 64, has no intention of slowing down. Instead, he’s taken the reins of Ale Hub, a micro pub located on Kingswinford’s bustling Market Street, and breathed new life into the business.
Under its previous owners, Ale Hub faced tough times and ultimately closed because it wasn’t profitable. Having worked at the pub part-time, Peter and his partner Li Wan, 58, saw potential and made an offer to take over the lease. They officially reopened the pub on November 28, coinciding with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
“We’ve been running it for about three and a half years now,” Peter shared. “Things were tough before, but since we took over, we’ve built a strong, loyal crowd. It’s doing pretty well.”

Ale Hub boasts a wide selection of drinks including real ales, craft lagers, ciders, wines, spirits, and cocktails made entirely from scratch, without using any premixed ingredients. This commitment to quality has made their cocktails particularly popular.
The venue also offers a vibrant social calendar, with weekly open mic sessions every Sunday, bingo and quiz nights, charity events, and live music – all designed to draw in the community and keep the atmosphere lively.
“We should probably be thinking about retirement, but taking over this pub has given us a new lease on life,” Peter admits. “It’s rewarding seeing regular crowds enjoying what we offer.”
