Fresh Drive-Thru Plans Submitted Near West Brom’s Hawthorns

Plans for a new KFC drive-thru have been submitted to Sandwell Council, proposing a fast-food restaurant opposite West Bromwich Albion’s home ground, The Hawthorns. This new application comes after previously approved plans for a Tim Hortons drive-thru on the same site were never realized.

The KFC proposal requests permission to build on the corner of Birmingham Road and Park Lane, just yards from the Championship football club’s stadium. The drive-thru is designed to operate 24 hours a day, offering convenience to customers at all times.

Included in the plans are a 19-space car park, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and outdoor seating areas, aiming to enhance the customer experience and support sustainable transportation.

Sandwell Council had initially approved Tim Hortons’ drive-thru plans in 2022, and although the coffee shop never constructed the venue, the site was cleared in 2023 following the demolition of former office blocks that had stood empty since 2019.

KFC’s new drive-thru proposal maintains a similar size and layout to the earlier Tim Hortons design, aligning with the land’s previously established use. The project is expected to create approximately 30 new full and part-time jobs in the area.

A statement from Savills, representing KFC, emphasized that the development aligns with current policies and the commercial character of the surrounding Birmingham Road area. They highlighted that the site’s redevelopment will bring significant investment and positive economic impact by attracting a diverse range of customers.
