More than 135 additional households near the HS2 construction sites in Water Orton and Coleshill will now benefit from free window cleaning and subsidised car washes, expanding a scheme that addresses years of dust and grime issues affecting residents' homes and vehicles.
The cleaning program, initially offered to just 37 households, will quadruple its reach this month thanks to the successful efforts of North Warwickshire and Bedworth MP Rachel Taylor. Local contractors will provide cleaning vouchers to 175 households in total.
MP Rachel Taylor emphasized the ongoing hardships faced by residents living close to HS2 works. “These families have endured the impact of dust and grime from nearby building activities for far too long,” she said. “Expanding this cleaning scheme ensures over 130 more families receive the support they deserve.”

Taylor revealed that after learning the original scheme covered only a limited number of properties, she directly challenged HS2’s chief executive, Mark Wild, to expand it. Her advocacy included inviting Wild to Water Orton’s Spud Club last year, where residents voiced their concerns firsthand.
Following sustained discussions, HS2 agreed to include additional homes on Gilson Drive, the south side of Vicarage Lane in Water Orton, and properties along the A446 in Coleshill. Both Taylor and HS2 are preparing letters to inform newly eligible households about the expanded assistance.
Despite this progress, Taylor reiterated her commitment to continue holding HS2 accountable for ongoing disruption, poor communication, and the impact on her constituents. Residents uncertain about their eligibility are encouraged to contact her office for more information.
