Former Birmingham Council Special School in Beoley Listed for Auction at £1.4 Million

A substantial freehold property previously operated by Birmingham City Council as a special school is set to be auctioned this summer. Skilts School, located on Gorcott Hill in Beoley near Redditch, served primary-aged children with emotional, social, and behavioural difficulties, along with related learning needs.

The now-vacant site spans 11.17 acres (4.52 hectares) and includes a detached bungalow. It is scheduled for auction on July 9 at Bond Wolfe’s upcoming sale, with a guide price starting at £1.4 million.

The property comprises a principal building dating back to the late 17th century, along with a site manager’s house, two residential blocks, and a gymnasium. These structures present potential for various uses or redevelopment, subject to obtaining the necessary planning permissions.

The main building, constructed with traditional materials typical of its period, combines two- and three-storey sections and features original architectural details. However, the building is not listed and is generally in poor condition both inside and out, requiring significant refurbishment.

Access is provided via a private road included in the sale, with parking areas surfaced in tarmac and gravel positioned in front of the main building. Pathways connect the ancillary buildings across the extensive site, which also includes a reed bed and sewage treatment works.

The auction, featuring numerous lots, will commence at 8:30 am on Thursday, July 9. Bidding is available live on Bond Wolfe’s website, with options for remote participation by proxy, telephone, or internet.
