Foreign Office Urges UK Tourists to Leave Israel and Palestine Amid Rising Conflict

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a fresh warning urging UK tourists to leave Israel and Palestine due to escalating tensions in the region. On Friday, March 6, the FCDO updated its travel guidance to reflect the current security situation.

UK nationals are advised to assess safety carefully before making travel plans and to check the latest information from airlines, tour operators, local authorities, and border officials. The FCDO emphasizes the importance of having emergency supplies and essential medication on hand.

Travel within Israel carries inherent risks, and passengers must be aware that Israeli airspace remains closed, although some commercial travel options are still operational. For those eligible to travel to Egypt, services continue to run from major cities to the Taba border crossing near Eilat.

Public transportation options include regular buses operated by Egged, which can be booked online, and apps like Moovit and Gett provide information on bus routes and private taxi services. British tourists entering on a B2 tourist visa may register for shuttle bus services organized by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to the Taba border. However, British nationals residing in Israel or dual Israeli nationals are not eligible for this service.

The FCDO advises travellers to keep their departure plans under constant review, ensure travel documents are current, and verify visa requirements for onward travel. A British Embassy team is stationed on the Egyptian side of the Taba border to guide British nationals toward onward travel options, including flights from Sharm El-Sheikh Airport.
