Foreign Office Updates Travel Advice for Four Countries Amid Middle East Tensions

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for four countries overnight, signaling caution for UK travelers amid escalating Middle East tensions. The changes affect Nepal, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia.

In Nepal, new guidance highlights potential disruptions linked to the March 5 elections, including possible disturbances after polling day. Travelers are advised to stay informed about local developments that might impact movement or visa processes.

In Bahrain, the FCDO has taken precautionary steps by temporarily withdrawing some staff and their dependents due to safety concerns. Despite this, the British Embassy in Bahrain remains operational.

Saudi Arabia’s travel advice has been tightened significantly. The FCDO now advises against all but essential travel to the Eastern and Riyadh provinces. Additionally, it maintains a ban on all travel within 10 kilometers of the Saudi-Yemen border due to ongoing conflict risks.

Lebanon’s advisory also reflects heightened caution; the FCDO now recommends avoiding all or all but essential travel throughout the country, expanding the scope due to increased conflict-related dangers.

Air travel in the region is adapting to the volatile situation. Emirates and Etihad Airways continue to operate limited flights from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Qatar Airways, based in Doha, has announced a temporary suspension of operations owing to closed Qatari airspace. However, starting March 5, Qatar Airways will operate a limited number of relief flights from Muscat to several European destinations—including London Heathrow, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Rome, and Amsterdam—and from Riyadh to Frankfurt. Passengers affected will be contacted directly about their bookings.

UK travelers are urged to remain vigilant, monitor government updates, and plan their journeys with these new advisories in mind.
