Foreign Office Issues Travel Warnings for Five Countries, Including Croatia and Bosnia

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has released fresh travel warnings for five countries, spotlighting two popular European destinations—Croatia and Bosnia—as well as several key regions in Africa and South America.

In Croatia, a favored European Union tourist spot, the FCDO highlighted travel disruptions at the Gradiška border crossing caused by the partial collapse of a bridge. Travelers are advised to consider alternative crossings and plan for potential delays due to increased traffic congestion.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s department of La Paz is currently experiencing ongoing protests and road blockades, with a heightened risk of violence. Central La Paz, particularly near government buildings, has seen serious disruptions. The FCDO strongly advises against all travel to this area and recommends following local authority guidance without attempting to cross blockades. Given the volatile situation, travelers should be prepared to alter their plans at short notice.

Health concerns have also been raised for Uganda, where an Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak was declared on 15 May by the Ugandan Ministry of Health, including cases in Kampala. The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated Ebola outbreaks in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The FCDO advises travelers to check current health screening requirements, as heightened measures — including exit temperature checks — may be enforced when leaving Uganda. Additionally, travelers to Tanzania from Uganda or the Democratic Republic of Congo should expect health screenings upon arrival.

The FCDO underscores the importance of researching destinations thoroughly and securing appropriate travel insurance that covers itineraries, planned activities, and emergency expenses. Travelers are urged to stay informed with up-to-date FCDO advice to make smart, safe decisions while abroad.
