Foreign Office Issues Terrorism Warning for UK Tourists in Jordan

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for UK tourists visiting Jordan, highlighting an elevated risk of terrorism. Issued on March 5 and 6, the revised guidance cautions holidaymakers to remain vigilant due to credible threats targeting British nationals and interests in the region.

The FCDO states that terrorist groups and individuals who consider the UK and its citizens as targets pose a substantial risk. Tourists are urged to stay alert to their surroundings at all times and follow local security advice. According to the FCDO’s “safety and security” page, terrorists are very likely to attempt attacks in Jordan, which may occur indiscriminately in places frequented by foreigners, including hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, tourist sites, and border crossings.

Past incidents underline the seriousness of the threat. In 2025, a fatal knife attack occurred at the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge, resulting in the deaths of two victims and the assailant. In 2024, three separate attacks on border crossings led to the deaths of three Israeli border personnel.
