Birmingham’s culinary scene is set to welcome an exciting new addition this October with the arrival of Flat Iron Steakhouse on Temple Street. The announcement brings closure to months of speculation since the brand first revealed plans to open in the city earlier this year.
Flat Iron Steak first made its mark in 2012 as a pop-up before establishing a permanent location in London’s Soho. Known for its mission to offer “great steak for everyone,” the restaurant’s signature flat iron steak, priced at just £15, has garnered a loyal following.
The flat iron cut comes from the featherblade, a section just below the cow’s shoulder. Despite being a more affordable steak option, it is praised for its rich flavour and pleasing texture. The restaurant’s founder, Charlie Carroll, taught himself butchery to perfect the seam-butchered flat iron technique that distinguishes Flat Iron’s steaks.

It is important to note that the steaks at Flat Iron are not halal certified, as stated on the brand’s website.
Since its inception, Flat Iron has expanded rapidly and now operates locations across London, Leeds, Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, and Cambridge. It also manages its own herd of cattle in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, ensuring quality and consistency.
The news of the Birmingham opening has already sparked excitement among food enthusiasts. Social media reactions include comments such as “Yesssssss what we’ve been waiting for!” and “We don’t need to travel for it anymore!” One fan even praised the mashed potatoes, calling them the “Best mash in the world!”
The new Flat Iron Steakhouse will be located at 41-42 Temple Street, B2 5DP, with doors expected to open to the public in October 2026.
