The NEC campus has unveiled its exciting new summer attraction, NEC Lakeside, offering families a refreshing outdoor space to enjoy free entertainment and activities. Officially opened on Saturday, May 9, the venue welcomed crowds eager to soak up the sunshine, enjoy picnics, browse food stalls, and explore the children’s play area and activity trail.
Located at the heart of the NEC site, NEC Lakeside was designed to provide a welcoming environment where families can relax and create lasting memories throughout the summer months. Open from May until the end of August, this free outdoor experience adds to the NEC’s already impressive lineup of ticketed attractions, such as the Peppa Pig Space Adventure and the Gladiators Experience.
Whether visitors are attending one of the NEC’s premier events or simply seeking a cost-free day out during the school holidays, NEC Lakeside offers an ideal spot to unwind and have fun. Sarah Harvey, the NEC’s deputy chief executive officer, highlighted the importance of this new addition: “This summer represents an exciting step in how we’re continuing to evolve the NEC experience. We are bringing together an incredible range of attractions for families and, as part of our NEC Built for Your Summer programme, creating even more reasons to visit throughout the season. With NEC Lakeside, we’re now able to offer a free space where people can spend quality time together and make the most of their visit.”

Alongside NEC Lakeside, the NEC is hosting a broad spectrum of family-friendly experiences this spring and summer, including iFLY indoor skydiving, the Tutankhamun Immersive Exhibition, and the Titanic Exhibition, providing something for every interest.
While the outdoor space opened its gates on May 9, free outdoor film screenings will commence on Saturday, May 23 and take place on selected dates thereafter. Films start at 2pm, with additional CBeebies screenings running between 9:30am and 5pm, ensuring plenty of entertainment options throughout the day for younger audiences.
