The first image of Katie Fox, the young woman tragically fatally stabbed near a bus stop in Birmingham city centre, has been released as the community mourns her loss.
Katie Fox, aged 34, suffered a severe neck wound during an unprovoked stabbing shortly before 9pm on Friday, November 7, along Smallbrook Queensway. She was quickly transported to hospital but succumbed to her injuries, West Midlands Police confirmed on Monday, November 10.
Heartfelt tributes have poured in from friends and strangers alike, describing her death as “heartbreaking” and expressing shock over this senseless act of violence. One social media user stated, “This is absolutely devastating to hear! Poor lady was in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Another poignantly shared, “Devastating news. I so hoped she would pull through. How can any family come to terms with losing a loved one in such a traumatic, pointless way? Sending love to all who knew her, may she rest in peace.”

Cathy Crossley of Arts All Over The Place (AAOTP) paid tribute to Katie, who had been a valued friend and community member: “Tragic news today that Katie Fox, partner of Gary Morris, died after being stabbed on Friday evening in Birmingham. She was a friend of AAOTP for many years and attended several events with us. We are all devastated and send so much love and support to Gary Morris, who is the bass player in our band ADHD.”
West Midlands Police released a statement detailing the incident: “A woman has sadly died following a stabbing in Birmingham on Friday night. The 34-year-old victim was taken to hospital with a serious neck injury after being stabbed on Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm but has since passed away.
“Our thoughts remain with her family at this difficult time. Specialist officers are supporting them through this tragedy.”
The police have charged 21-year-old Djeison Rafael in connection with the attack. He appeared in Birmingham Magistrates Court and is currently remanded in custody. Charges will be updated to reflect the victim’s death.
To reassure the public, extra police patrols will continue throughout Birmingham city centre. Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident or the suspect—last seen wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers, and carrying a rucksack—to come forward.
