Final Warning Issued to UK Households Still Using Windows 10

UK households still running Windows 10 have been issued a final warning to upgrade or extend their licenses before the end of official support. Microsoft ceased regular support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. While a one-year extended support option was available, it ends this October, leaving users vulnerable if they haven’t taken action.

Without ongoing support, Windows 10 devices no longer receive critical security updates or patches, exposing users to increased risks from cybercriminals, scammers, and hackers. Experts warn that this leaves personal and financial information, such as bank details, at risk of being stolen.

Nathan Proctor, senior director of the consumer group PIRG, previously highlighted the dangers of ending support, calling it “a looming security disaster for millions of users.” He explained that while cyber threats are rapidly addressed during support periods, once updates stop, vulnerabilities become open doors for attackers.

Similarly, Paul Roberts, president of the Secure Resilient Future Foundation, urged Microsoft to reconsider discontinuing support, emphasizing the importance of user safety.

Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11, which delivers enhanced productivity features, a modern interface, and better support for today’s hybrid working environments. The upgrade is free but requires devices to meet minimum system requirements. Users should note that the Windows 11 installer is sizable, and downloading it over metered internet connections could incur charges.

Acting now to upgrade or extend support is crucial to remain protected against evolving cyber threats and ensure your PC remains secure and functional.
