Family Flees Home After Arsonists Torch Cars in Mistaken Identity Attack

A Birmingham family was left traumatized after their cars were deliberately set on fire early one Monday morning in a case of mistaken identity. At around 3:20 a.m. on March 9, two hooded arsonists poured petrol over vehicles parked on a driveway in Handsworth and ignited them, with one assailant recording the attack from a nearby car. The chilling footage later circulated on social media.

The couple, both in their late 50s who asked to remain anonymous, were shocked to discover their home targeted despite having no connection to the intended target identified in circulating videos. “This has been an extremely traumatic experience for my family," the father of two shared. “We’ve lived quietly here for years, and to wake up to this was terrifying.”

After the cars were set on fire, the family fled their home, with the wife sustaining a sprained ankle while escaping. Neighbors rallied during the blaze, witnessing the frightening scene unfold. Fortunately, none of the vehicles exploded—a detonation that could have caused serious injuries or fatalities.

Thankfully, no one was injured.
