Family Car Records Highest Motorway Speed in West Midlands for 2026

West Midlands Police have disclosed details of the fastest speeds recorded on local motorways throughout the past year.

Following a Freedom of Information request from BirminghamLive, the police provided data listing the top ten highest speeds clocked in the region over the previous twelve months. The report included the specific speed, vehicle make, and location for each incident.

Surprisingly, the highest speed was recorded by a Skoda, a brand commonly associated with family cars. This particular vehicle was travelling at an astonishing 137mph.

All of the top ten recorded speeds occurred on motorway routes, including the M6, M5, and M42. Out of these cases, seven drivers were caught by speed cameras, while the other three were apprehended by police officers on the spot. Details regarding the penalties for these offences have not been disclosed.

BMW was the most frequently appearing manufacturer in the list, with three vehicles. Mercedes-Benz and Audi each accounted for two entries. Porsche, Ford, and Skoda made up the remaining places.

The data also indicated whether each driver was travelling on sections subject to the national speed limit of 70mph or through zones with temporary variable speed limits set at 60mph.
