Exciting New Restaurant Openings and Hospitality Updates in Birmingham

Hello Food Club friends, it’s Kirsty here with this week’s update on the latest food and drink happenings around Birmingham.

After some recent difficult news in the local hospitality scene, this edition brings a breath of fresh air with plenty of positive announcements – dinner dates to look forward to!

On 12 August, Sael will make its much-anticipated debut in the Jewellery Quarter – a welcome addition to the area’s dining options.

Following this, on 21 August, fans of Japanese cuisine can savour the delights of Maki and Ramen, set to open on New Street. It’s been a long-awaited arrival, so get ready to tuck in soon.

Another highly anticipated opening is that of Flat Iron, which is scheduled to launch in Birmingham this October, with a precise date possibly being 30 October. This is the restaurant that many of you have been asking about, so it’s great to finally have a timeframe.

Further autumn openings to note include Sticks ‘n’ Sushi (exact date to be confirmed) and the charming new Italian café and restaurant, Ponte. Located on Newhall Street, Ponte will be opening in September and promises to offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as a fine selection of wines – all sounding truly “buonissimo” (with a Birmingham accent, naturally).

In Stirchley, the vibrant neighbourhood continues to thrive with fresh culinary ventures. Filipino restaurant Boodle Fight is currently in its soft opening phase at the former Loaf premises. Named after a traditional Filipino dining style where everyone shares food fresh off banana leaves, Boodle Fight will serve unlimited jasmine rice, Asian vegetables with bagoong dipping sauce, salted duck egg, sour and spicy sinigang soup, plus a selection of curries and grilled dishes.

Joining this exciting new venture will be wellness café Sundays, set to take over the old Yardbirds location, and Else, a Japanese-style izakaya that is now open, spinning vinyl and serving up small plates.

Moreover, there is positive news concerning the tenant for the former Marco Pierre White’s restaurant at The Cube, which adds further optimism for Birmingham’s hospitality scene.

Unfortunately, some neighbourhoods like Digbeth are currently facing challenges, with bars and restaurants experiencing closures. I will keep you informed with everything I know about the situation there.

That wraps up this update. Please note, Food Club will take a short break over the next couple of weeks as I’ll be away.
