Exciting New Additions Transforming Digbeth’s Creative Quarter

Digbeth has long been on the cusp of a major revival, with promising developments like the BBC’s arrival, Stephen Knight’s film district ambitions, new housing projects, and future tram connections. However, for locals and visitors alike, many of these improvements have felt distant and slow to materialize.

Recently, the neighbourhood has experienced a surge of exciting openings and expansions that are already beginning to reshape its dynamic scene. Here’s a roundup of the latest and upcoming highlights:

Forum Digbeth on Glover Street is dramatically expanding. Having taken over the former Roller Jam venue last summer, the popular live music and event space is set to double its capacity from 2,000 to 4,000 with the opening of The Annexe this month. This new warehouse will enable larger club nights, more concerts, and a broader variety of events, further cementing Forum’s status as a cornerstone of Digbeth’s nightlife.

Another eagerly anticipated arrival is the revival of the old O’Rourkes pub on Oxford Street. Closed since 2018 and long considered a graffiti-covered eyesore, it’s undergoing a remarkable transformation. Scheduled to reopen in 2026, this venue will not only be a traditional pub but also a record shop and vinyl bar, perfectly capturing the creative spirit that Digbeth is known for.

In a bold move following BOXPARK’s withdrawal from Digbeth, Blend Family—renowned for successful food halls in Sheffield, Salford Quays, and London—announced the launch of Alfred Works. Situated in the Custard Factory, this impressive 17,500 sq ft food hall will feature 15 kitchens, an outdoor courtyard, social gaming areas, a shop, and a children’s zone complete with a sandpit. Moreover, another 10,000 sq ft of space over the River Rea promises additional attractions, making Alfred Works a major new destination for food lovers and families alike.

Finally, The Drop Inn, already open and celebrated as ‘the coolest place in Brum,’ continues to innovate. This hybrid market, food spot, music venue, and indoor skate park has teamed up with Birmingham Skate Space—creators of the Bournbrook skatepark—to introduce a miniramp and other skating features just in time for winter. It’s a vibrant, community-focused hub where music, food, and active lifestyles collide.

With these exciting developments, Digbeth’s Creative Quarter is fast becoming one of Birmingham’s most dynamic and attractive neighbourhoods, appealing to residents and visitors who crave authentic culture, great food, and unforgettable experiences.
