Exact UK areas where ‘significant’ snow is expected this week

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning as significant snowfall is forecast in parts of the UK this week. On Thursday, November 20, between 5am and 9pm, frequent wintry showers are expected to bring heavy snow accumulations, particularly over elevated areas.

The most affected regions include the North York Moors, Yorkshire Wolds, Redcar and Cleveland, East Riding of Yorkshire, and North Yorkshire. Snowfall of 15 to 25 cm is predicted on hills above 100 meters, which may lead to major travel disruptions and safety hazards.

Authorities warn that the snow could cause delays on roads and railways, with some vehicles and passengers potentially stranded. Power outages are likely, and mobile phone signals could be disrupted, posing communication challenges. Additionally, rural communities risk becoming isolated due to the severe conditions.

The Met Office notes that gusty winds accompanied by occasional blizzard conditions and even lightning strikes may intensify the storm’s impact. Residents and commuters in the affected areas are advised to prepare for hazardous weather and plan their journeys with caution.
