Every Flying Scotsman Departure Time in Birmingham for Steam Locomotive Spotting

For steam train enthusiasts and history buffs alike, the arrival of The Flying Scotsman in Birmingham is a rare and thrilling event. This 103-year-old steam locomotive, a true piece of living history, will be making multiple departures from Birmingham Moor Street and Snow Hill stations during half term week, from Saturday, February 14 to Saturday, February 21.

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets, you can enjoy an unforgettable journey aboard luxurious coaches—whether it’s a refined afternoon tea, a stylish brunch, or a romantic three-course dinner while the locomotive powers down the tracks. Just be prepared to budget around £48.76 for an hour-long ride or £83.74 for the special dining experiences.

However, even if tickets are out of reach, seeing the Flying Scotsman speed past is an experience in itself—and it’s completely free. The best viewing opportunities are during the weekdays from Wednesday, February 18 to Friday, February 20, when the locomotive will operate five return trips daily from Moor Street Station to the Dorridge Goods Loop. Departures are scheduled at 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, 4:30pm, and 6:30pm, with each round trip lasting about an hour.

On Saturdays, February 14 and 21, the Flying Scotsman travels from Snow Hill Station as part of The Shakespeare Express, heading towards Stratford-upon-Avon. On these days, brunch services depart at 9:30am (returning at 12:45pm), afternoon tea at 1:30pm (returning around 5:45pm), and dinner runs at 6:30pm (returning at 9:45pm).

Please note that all times were accurate at the time of writing but may be subject to change—though it’s hard to imagine the legendary Flying Scotsman being delayed like everyday local trains!

Whether you ride onboard or watch from a safe vantage point, rail safety is crucial. Always obey signs, stay clear of restricted areas, and never trespass on railway property.
