This winter, thousands of UK households are receiving free emergency energy-saving packs designed to help cut down on heating costs and keep homes warm. Known as Warm Home Packs, these kits contain essential items aimed at improving energy efficiency and comfort during the colder months.
Funded through the Labour Party government’s Warm Homes: Local Grant and supported by charities and community groups, these packs can help families save up to £250 annually on their energy bills.
Seventy-four councils across the UK have been allocated a share of £500 million to distribute these packs. For example, South Gloucestershire Council has mailed out 1,000 Warm Home Packs including hot water bottles, flasks, hand warmers, soup, hats, gloves, socks, and blankets. In Kingston, packs feature radiator reflectors, energy-saving bulbs, and draught excluders to minimize heat loss.

Residents in Lincolnshire have options tailored to their needs, including 15-tog duvets, fleece blankets, heated throws, insulation materials, thermal gloves, scarves, Thermos flasks, and radiator heat reflectors. Similarly, councils such as Wandsworth, Richmond, and Tower Hamlets are distributing kits that include draught excluders for doors and letterboxes, shower timers, smart plugs, radiator keys, as well as warm clothing and blankets.
Energy advisors like Armelle Lee stress that with utility bills remaining significantly higher than pre-crisis levels, such support is crucial. Simple measures such as blocking draughts and bleeding radiators can significantly improve household comfort and reduce energy bills.
Council representatives emphasize that the Warm Home Packs, along with free home energy visits, provide vital assistance to communities facing affordability challenges this winter. Residents are encouraged to claim their packs to stay warm and save on energy costs during this challenging season.
