Eddie Bauer Files Bankruptcy: Gift Cards Expire March 12 as Stores Prepare to Close

Eddie Bauer shoppers have less than a month to use their gift cards and loyalty points as the major outdoor apparel retailer files for bankruptcy. According to court documents, all gift cards and Adventure Points earned through Eddie Bauer’s loyalty program will expire on March 12, making it critical for customers to redeem them promptly.

Catalyst Brands, the company operating Eddie Bauer stores, is currently seeking a buyer while liquidating its Canadian and U.S. locations. All sales during this liquidation period are final, meaning no returns will be accepted for purchases made amid the store closures.

The bankruptcy filing affects approximately 180 stores across North America, including 24 stores in Canada, which employ about 379 people. The company’s CEO, Rosen, expressed regret over the difficult decision but emphasized that this restructuring was necessary to maximize value for stakeholders and maintain profitability and liquidity.

Notably, Eddie Bauer’s e-commerce and wholesale operations, managed separately by Outdoor 5, are not part of the bankruptcy protection and remain unaffected. Additionally, international Eddie Bauer stores operated by other licensees are also excluded from the proceedings.

As the brand winds down its brick-and-mortar presence in Massachusetts and across North America, customers are urged to act quickly to redeem any outstanding gift cards and loyalty rewards before they lose value on March 12.
