EasyJet Launches Recruitment Drive to Attract Over-50s to Cabin Crew Roles

EasyJet has initiated a substantial recruitment campaign aimed at encouraging more over-50s to join its cabin crew. The airline, which operates flights from Birmingham and competes with carriers such as Ryanair, TUI, and Jet2, is keen to broaden its workforce by attracting candidates from older age groups.

The programme has received support from Andrew Western, Labour Party employment minister, who praised the move. Western commented, “Supportive employers like easyJet appreciate the wide range of experience that over-50s bring to the workforce, demonstrating the value of inclusion across age groups.” Applications are set to open from September.

EasyJet highlights the role of cabin crew as providing a warm welcome on every flight, ensuring passengers feel comfortable, cared for, and safe. The airline values diversity within its teams, which operate across an extensive selection of routes, all embodying the company’s “Orange Spirit”-a positive, inclusive attitude coupled with confidence and a smile at every altitude.

Recognising that the position differs from standard office hours, EasyJet notes that cabin crew work according to rosters that may include early starts, late finishes, and weekend shifts. Nevertheless, crew members receive appropriate rest periods between flights. The role offers variety and the opportunity for career progression, with the possibility to apply for Cabin Manager after just twelve months of service.

Michael Brown, EasyJet’s director of cabin services, highlighted the growth in mature employees within the cabin crew, stating, “It is encouraging that the number of cabin crew aged over 50 has more than doubled since 2022. This trend shows that many are viewing cabin crew as a rewarding career move regardless of age. Over-50s bring not only valuable skills but also significant life experience, which enhances the exceptional service our crew provide and is appreciated by both customers and colleagues.”
