E.ON has introduced the Next Energy Fund to support customers facing financial difficulties, including those with Sainsbury’s Energy accounts. The fund aims to ease the burden of rising energy costs by offering two main forms of assistance: grants to help cover electricity and gas bills and the replacement of essential household appliances.
Customers struggling with payments may qualify for grants that clear existing household energy debts, giving them a fresh start toward financial stability. To be eligible, customers must participate in a three-month Provisional Award Scheme, during which any outstanding debt is suspended. If all payments are kept up during this period, E.ON will clear the debt at the end. Failure to maintain payments will result in the award being withdrawn, leaving the debt intact along with any new charges accrued.
Additionally, the fund offers free replacement appliances such as cookers, fridges, fridge-freezers, or washing machines when existing ones are broken or in poor condition. These appliances are more energy-efficient, helping customers reduce future energy consumption.

Applicants need their E.ON Next or Sainsbury’s Energy account number and may be asked to provide proof of benefits, tax credits, or medical conditions affecting household members. Documentation must be recent (less than three months old), except for certain annual benefit letters, and must clearly display the applicant’s name, address, and benefit amounts.
This initiative reflects E.ON’s commitment to helping customers regain control over their finances and energy usage during challenging times.
