The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to automatically provide a Winter Fuel Payment of £150 to state pensioner couples living together who were both born before 28 September 1946. This payment forms part of the DWP’s ongoing support to assist older individuals with rising heating costs during the colder months.
For the 2026-27 winter season, the Winter Fuel Payment will range from £100 to £300 depending on individual circumstances. If you live alone or with someone not eligible for the payment, you will receive £200 if born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960, or £300 if born before 28 September 1946.
When living with another eligible person, the amount may vary based on whether you receive certain benefits such as Pension Credit, Universal Credit, or income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). Without receiving any of these benefits, the payment amounts are as follows:

- £100 if both you and your cohabitant were born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960
- £100 if you were born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960 and your cohabitant was born before 28 September 1946
- £200 if you were born before 28 September 1946 and your cohabitant was born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960
- £150 if both you and your cohabitant were born before 28 September 1946
For couples who jointly claim any of the stated benefits, one payment will be made: either £200 if both were born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960, or £300 if one or both were born before 28 September 1946.
Payments will be made directly into the bank account where your usual benefits are deposited, ensuring a seamless process for eligible pensioners receiving this vital financial support during winter.
