The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is currently providing Personal Independent Payment (PIP) to approximately 30,000 individuals suffering from 24 specific skin conditions. PIP is a financial support program offering assistance to around four million claimants across the UK who have long-term physical or mental health conditions or disabilities.
PIP consists of two main components: the daily living rate and the mobility component. The daily living rate is paid at either the standard rate of £76.70 per week or an enhanced rate of £114.60 per week, depending on the claimant’s level of need. The mobility component is available at either £30.30 or £80.00 per week.
To qualify for PIP, applicants must have a long-term condition that impacts their ability to perform everyday tasks or move around, with these difficulties expected to persist for at least 12 months. Skin conditions eligible for PIP are explicitly listed by the DWP, ensuring claimants with qualifying conditions receive the necessary support.

Claiming PIP involves contacting the ‘PIP new claims’ phone line, where individuals answer initial questions about their disability or condition. Following this, a detailed form is sent out to assess how the condition affects daily life. After returning the completed form, an independent assessment may be scheduled if additional information is required to determine eligibility.
This payment provides crucial financial help that supports those living with challenging skin conditions, helping to improve their quality of life.
