The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is preparing to distribute Winter Fuel Payments of between £100 and £300 to eligible state pensioners born before 28 June 1960. This financial support aims to ease the burden of heating costs during the winter months of 2026 to 2027.
If you were born between 28 September 1946 and 27 June 1960 and live alone or with individuals not eligible for this payment, you will receive £200. Those born before 28 September 1946 are eligible for an enhanced payment of £300.
Most recipients will receive the Winter Fuel Payment automatically and do not need to apply if they are already receiving certain qualifying benefits. However, it’s important to note that individuals with an annual income above £35,000 may have their Winter Fuel Payment reclaimed by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) during the 2025 tax year.
