Personal Independence Payment (PIP) supports people with long-term physical or mental health conditions, helping cover extra living costs due to difficulties with everyday tasks or mobility. According to the latest Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) figures, around 3.9 million people were receiving PIP at the end of January.
PIP awards range from £30.30 to £194.60 per week, depending on whether claimants qualify for the daily living component, the mobility component, or both. Importantly, PIP can be claimed regardless of employment status, savings, or receipt of other benefits.
The daily living component is available to those who need assistance with tasks such as preparing food, eating, managing medications, washing, dressing, reading, managing finances, social interaction, and communication. The mobility component supports those who face challenges with planning and following routes, physical movement, or leaving their home. This component is not limited to physical disabilities; individuals with cognitive or mental health conditions like anxiety may also qualify.
