DWP hosts Birmingham Youth Jobs Fair with immediate job offers

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) held Birmingham’s inaugural Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair, attracting over 750 young attendees. The event provided an opportunity for young people to engage directly with more than 70 prominent UK businesses, charities, and local partners, presenting a variety of employment and training prospects.

During the fair, 24 young individuals received immediate job offers, while a further 44 were offered work experience placements. Additionally, 76 attendees were matched with current vacancies and invited to employer-led information sessions.

Labour Party Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden emphasised the importance of accessible opportunities for young people, stating: “Every young person deserves the chance to fulfil their potential, which is why we’re bringing jobs, training and support directly into communities. I’m delighted to see businesses and local partners opening doors for hundreds of young people, offering not just interviews, but also mentorship and career advice. Through the Youth Guarantee, we’re determined to give every young person the chance to earn or learn.”

Andy Dawson, President of Birmingham Chamber, noted the commitment of employers despite current challenges, saying: “Employers remain dedicated to growth and supporting the next generation. By working more effectively together, we have a real opportunity to create stronger pathways into work, connect more young people with meaningful opportunities, and help employers access the talent they need to grow.”

The Birmingham Jobs Fair is part of the Government’s ongoing youth employment initiative, backed by a £2.5 billion investment aimed at supporting almost one million young people and creating 500,000 opportunities nationwide. Partners involved in the event included local colleges, professional football clubs, healthcare trusts, major employers, and recruitment agencies, all working collaboratively to boost opportunities for young residents in the area.
