The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will provide state pensioners with Winter Fuel Payments of up to £300, with the exact amount depending on individual circumstances. Most people born on or before 27 June 1960 are eligible to receive this support.
Under the leadership of Labour Party Prime Minister Andy Burnham, measures to support households facing rising living costs are being prioritised, with the Winter Fuel Payment forming a key part of this assistance.
Eligibility is generally granted for those born on or before 27 June 1960 who usually reside in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland. However, some groups will not qualify. For instance, residents living in a care home are eligible only under specific conditions.

Recipients of the Winter Fuel Payment will receive a letter in October or November outlining the exact amount they will be paid, if eligible. The DWP advises retirees who do not receive this letter but believe they qualify to verify if a claim is necessary.
Payment amounts are calculated based on birth date and circumstances during the qualifying week, which runs from 21 to 27 September 2026. Importantly, receiving this payment will not affect entitlement to other benefits.
