DWP Changes Payment Dates for Universal Credit, PIP, and Attendance Allowance Due to May Bank Holidays

Starting tomorrow, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will alter the payment schedule for Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Universal Credit, and Attendance Allowance to accommodate the upcoming May Bank Holidays.

If you usually receive payments on Monday, 4 May, or Monday, 25 May, expect your money to arrive earlier—specifically on the last working day before the bank holiday. For instance, payments due on 4 May will be paid on Friday, 1 May.

This adjustment applies to all benefits paid on a four-weekly cycle, including Universal Credit, PIP, and Attendance Allowance.

If you experience issues with your benefits, such as delays, mistakes, or poor communication, you can raise a concern or make a complaint with the DWP. It’s important to ensure your payments are accurate and timely.

Universal Credit payments can vary monthly, making it difficult to predict the exact amount. If you suspect an error, contact the Universal Credit helpline or log into your online account to message your work coach via your journal, asking for clarification.

In case of late payments, check your online account and message your work coach to verify if any documentation, such as proof of rent or identity, is missing—these are known as ‘payment blockers’ by the DWP.

For those receiving Universal Credit for the first time, an advance payment is available. This loan can help cover costs while you wait for your first payment, but remember it will be deducted from your future Universal Credit instalments. You can request an advance even if your payment is not overdue.
