Dudley Bar Boss Vows to ‘Stand Strong’ and Preserve ‘Good Vibes’ After Van Crashes Into Venue

The director of The Coast Restaurant & Bar in Dudley has expressed relief that no one was hurt after a van smashed into the establishment in the early hours of Sunday, February 1. CCTV footage shows the vehicle driving up King Street, pausing briefly outside the venue, then reversing onto the pavement and crashing into the building before fleeing the scene.

Augustine Nsinga, who leads The Coast, shared with BirminghamLive that while the damage was extensive—particularly to the front windows and the exit door—there was no harm done to the interior of the bar or its patrons and staff. “Thankfully, no injuries occurred,” Augustine confirmed.

Despite the setback, The Coast has managed to continue operating as a restaurant throughout the week, though weekend bar services face disruption due to licensing restrictions tied to the damaged entrance. The team is currently seeking repair quotes and plans to close temporarily once work begins.

Expressing disappointment over the incident, Augustine emphasized the venue’s commitment to its customers and the local community. “With many hospitality spots closing in Dudley and fewer people socializing out, we want to maintain a safe, enjoyable place for our clients filled with music and good vibes,” he said. “The Coast will stand strong and be fully operational very soon.”

West Midlands Police are investigating the crash, appealing for information to identify the driver. A police spokesperson confirmed they responded to reports at around 1:30 a.m. on February 1 and reiterated that no injuries were reported. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the force and reference log 311 of February 1.
