A significant number of motorists have been issued parking fines near Newman University in Bartley Green, Birmingham, as local police intensify efforts to tackle hazardous parking in the area.
Last week, West Midlands Police issued over 40 fines following reports from concerned residents about vehicles improperly parked around the vicinity of the university. The crackdown targets cars parked on grass verges and pavements, often obstructing pedestrian pathways and standing near double yellow lines.
On Wednesday 23 September, further patrols resulted in additional parking tickets being handed out, with officers actively monitoring the situation to prevent continued obstructions.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson explained, “Our officers conduct targeted patrols to address problem parking around Genners Lane, Bartley Green. We will take action against vehicles causing obstructions on pavements and junctions, as this poses risks to pedestrians and other road users. Several dozen fines have been issued so far, and we will maintain this operation in collaboration with local council partners and the university. We urge all drivers to adhere to parking regulations and road laws to ensure safety.”
Earlier, on Friday 18 September, the Bartley Green Police confirmed on social media platform X that 44 vehicles had been identified and ticketed for parking offences around Newman University.
Newman University has been contacted for comment but has yet to respond.
