Dolly Parton, the beloved country music legend, has passed away at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer, her representatives have confirmed.

In a statement released to PEOPLE magazine on Tuesday, August 25, her team reflected on Parton’s profound impact both as an entertainer and philanthropist. “Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched,” the statement said.

It highlighted her extensive generosity, which reached millions across the globe. From donating hundreds of millions of books through her Imagination Library to funding research that contributed to the development of a lifesaving vaccine, Dolly’s compassion was evident in every endeavour she pursued.

The statement concluded, “After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.”

The news of Parton’s passing was first made public by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who shared a heartfelt message on social media on the same day. Reports note that Parton was admitted to a hospital in the Nashville area on Friday, August 21, and passed away four days later.
