Dog Dies After Children Allegedly Throw Firework Into Its Cage; Parents Dismiss Tragedy

A tragic incident unfolded in Jiangsu province, China, when a dog named Xiao Wang was fatally burned after two children allegedly threw a firework into its locked cage. Xiao Wang, a Samoyed who had been part of its owner Jiang’s family for seven years, suffered fatal injuries after a piece of cloth inside the cage caught fire.

The horrifying event occurred around midday on February 1, 2026, with neighbors hearing the dog’s agonized howls for several minutes. Despite one of the boys reportedly trying to extinguish the flames with water, the efforts were unsuccessful.

Surveillance footage capturing the incident was later released publicly by the dog’s owner. This action came after the parents of the boys declined to apologize and appeared to minimize the seriousness of the event. According to reports, the parents told police that the owner was exaggerating the situation to tarnish their reputation.

Jiang recounted the parents' response: “The child was just being mischievous, it was just a prank. We can compensate you 6,000 yuan or maybe provide another Samoyed. It’s just a dog. Why make such a big deal out of it?”

Local media have confirmed the parents offered financial compensation equivalent to about £635, but the owner demanded acknowledgment of the cruelty and responsibility rather than mere payouts.

This incident has sparked outrage online and highlights concerns about animal welfare, accountability, and the importance of treating pets with respect and compassion.
