Looking for a delightful day trip close to home? Droitwich Spa, a picturesque black-and-white town on the banks of the River Salwarpe, is the perfect destination. With seven miles of canals weaving through the town, it’s an ideal spot for scenic walks and family picnics.
Explore a variety of independent shops featuring unique finds, and stop by inviting cafes to indulge in ice creams and milkshakes. Don’t miss the iconic outdoor lido for a refreshing swim or the newly opened Saltwich Splash Park for some aquatic fun.
For summer 2026, Droitwich Spa introduces the enchanting “Once Upon a Trail” – a free fairy tale trail that families can follow through ten beautifully illustrated shop windows. These captivating displays bring local landscapes and landmarks to life with a whimsical storybook twist.

Children can pick up free activity books from Droitwich Library, the Heritage Centre, or The Crafty Café, collecting hidden words in each window to craft their own stories. This imaginative trail has been created in celebration of the National Year of Reading, led by Wychavon District Council, Droitwich Spa Library, and St Joseph’s First School. Local youth also contributed to the artwork, making this community project even more special.
After completing the trail, children can return to the library (closed Thursdays and Sundays) to receive a free book and a special treat – plus snap a memorable selfie!
Beyond the trail, explore independent local favorites like Love Labels outlet store, 360 Thrifts clothing, Hothouse Worcester gifts, Evolve clothing, Smart Ideas gifts, Humphries shoe store, and MegsPegs bakery. Nearby, the Jinney Ring Craft Centre and Churchfields Farm Shop offer excellent local produce and gifts.
For extra family fun, visit the Aztec Adventure aqua-adventure park just a short drive away. Droitwich Spa is conveniently accessible via a 40-minute drive from Birmingham on the M5 or a direct 30-minute train ride from Birmingham New Street.
Embrace a fantastic, free family day out filled with exploration, creativity, and nature’s beauty in Droitwich Spa this summer.
