Demarai Gray, the Birmingham-born winger, has expressed his enthusiasm about the prospect of playing in Birmingham City’s forthcoming 62,000-seat stadium in the Sports Quarter. Having re-joined his boyhood club last summer with ambitions of securing promotion to the Premier League, Gray attended the recent unveiling of the club’s stunning new facility in Digbeth.
Owners Knighthead unveiled ‘The Powerhouse’—a uniquely designed modern stadium encircled by 12 towering chimneys, the tallest reaching 120 meters. This visionary design has captured the imagination of players and fans alike.
Though Gray will be 34 by the projected 2030 opening date, the stadium reveal has inspired him with a renewed sense of purpose. “The stadium reveal was different class,” Gray said. “I think it’s great for the fans and the city. If I get the opportunity to play there, that would be amazing. It feels full circle now, and being part of the future project would be fantastic.”

Gray spoke after helping Birmingham City secure a commanding 4-1 victory over Norwich City, marking their third consecutive home win. Marvin Ducksch and Jay Stansfield each scored twice as Blues maintained their stronghold at St Andrew’s.
Despite this impressive home record, Gray acknowledges the need to improve the team’s performance on the road, where they have suffered five defeats in eight matches. “It’s definitely clicked,” he noted. “The away form is what we need to nail down. We have had decent games away, like at Preston and Middlesbrough, where we deserved more. Our home form has been great, and everyone can see we’re starting to click.”
A key contributor to Birmingham’s recent success has been Marvin Ducksch, whose return to fitness has coincided with a strong run of form. The two-time Germany international has started five league games, with the Blues winning four of those matches and netting 14 goals in the process.
Gray praised Ducksch’s efforts: “Marvin played his first game and got injured, but since he’s come back in, he’s been great. His all-round play has improved and the chemistry between me, him, and Pat Roberts has been really good. I’m delighted he scored twice today; he’s been working hard for the team.”
With renewed momentum both on and off the pitch, Gray and Birmingham City look poised for an exciting journey ahead, inspired by the promise of a bold new home.
